You may or may not be aware of the current fullsmurf/halfsmurf hashtag trend that has been spreading across Instagram of late, if not, it is when someone is sporting a rather blue tongue. The reason behind this is Methylene Blue (the latest biohacking tool adopted for its anti-aging and cognitive performance benefits).
I first came across Methylene Blue in Dave Asprey’s book “Super Human’. He refers to the liquid variation which can be added to everyday moisturisers, the Methylene Blue is then absorbed through the skin and protects connective tissue cells from aging. MB acts as an antioxidant to mitochondria, this means it protects them from aging oxidative stress. A 2017 study showed that Methylene Blue was more effective in delaying skin cellular senescence than other antioxidants. It also improved skin viability, promoted wound healing, and increased skin hydration and dermis thickness while upregulating the production of elastin and collagen (Zheng-Mei Xiong et al., “Anti-Aging potentials of methylane blue for human skin longevity”)
In his book ‘Boundless’, Ben Greenfield reports that Methylene Blue has been used to treat Alzheimer’s, Huntingdon’s, Parkinson’s, and dementia to prevent amyloid plaque build-up in the brain and restore mitochondrial function. Methylene Blue has also been shown to improve attention span, short-term memory and memory retrieval, from long-term memory. It has also been shown to increase memory consolidation (how the brain maintains, stabilises and strengthens memories stored in long-term memory).
Benefits of Methylane Blue include:
Enhances Memory Retrieval
I have taken it three times now and can 100% say I feel more energised and focused but without the jitters associated with too much caffeine. I personally find Methylene Blue is best combined with a cup of bulletproof coffee before the need for extended cognitive performance.
You can purchase Methylene Blue at https://troscriptions.com I have been taking a ¼ of a trouche twice a week (taking it too often can lead to toxicity). I would love to hear from you if you give it a go so please comment below.
